Donegal-based Accubook has unveiled new technology aimed at small providers of accommodation including independent hotels, guesthouses, B&Bs and self catering properties.

Owners can download a booking engine, website and channel management system from accubook.net following the launch of Pocketbook.

The system has been designed to offer property owners a full smartphone-powered management system.

Pocketbook will allow them to check which customers are arriving, price and availability of their rooms, their quality rating and even update their website while on the move.

The system feeds into leading retailers such as Booking.com and Hotels.com.

Accubook claims this offers small- to medium-sized owners the ability to compete with larger players without incurring the same sort of costs.

Joe Byrne, Accubook senior developer, said: “The concept for this product was created together with our distribution partners in Asia, where whole generations have leapfrogged laptops and PC’s and wholeheartedly embraced mobile phone solutions. But even in Europe we have seen users switching to mobile phones to manage their property.”

“We suspect that one reason is that developing for mobile phone use forces the creation of simple, intuitive, easy to use applications. In short it’s often simpler to use a mobile phone than it is a PC or laptop.”

AccuBook claims the interest in the product has prompted it to look at markets further afield, including South America, where it will be released in June.
