TravelShark snaps up 80 destination domains

Online global travel network TravelShark has acquired 80 destination-specific websites across the Asia-Pacific region and Europe.

Global travel network TravelShark has acquired 80 destination-specific websites across the Asia-Pacific region and Europe.

The Singapore-based company’s new domain acquisitions include BeijingHotels.com, SingaporeHotels.com, BangkokHotels.com and KualaLumpurHotels.com.

It already has domains such as HotelLondon.com and recently acquired the eat.shop guides, now re-named rather travel guides. The sites provide local content, information and special accommodation rates.

The TravelShark network enables hotels to connect direct with international consumers through premium positioning on its sites through the company’s Featured Hotel Programme. A link is provided from the premium slots to a client hotel’s proprietary booking engine.

Chief executive Sue Heilbronner said: “Through strategic decisions like this combined with active new product initiatives like rather, TravelShark is moving aggressively toward its objective of being the leading point of connection between global travelers and hyper-local travel solutions.

“This acquisition helps us fulfil that promise by showcasing our unique content on the premier websites in Asia, the fastest-growing travel market in the world, and also our ‘home’ region for our Singapore-based company.”
