Tech company Farelogix has unveiled an online baggage allowance and fee calculator that can be integrated into agents’ booking tools.
Iflybags.com claims to instantly calculate baggage allowances and fees based on data about the traveller, itinerary, number and weight of bags to be checked, based on information from more than 300 participating airlines.
The site soucres data from the Airline Tariff Publishing Company (ATPCO), which collects and distributes airline fare and fare-related data, to calculate baggage allowances and fees.
ATPCO is also providing an XML API that agents can integrate the calculator directly into their booking tool. Farelogix will also integrate its iflybags application directly into its SPRK travel agent point-of-sale application by the end of the year.
Mobile apps for iPhone, Android, BlackBerry, and Windows smartphones are also in the pipeline.
Company CEO Jim Davidson said: “While the majority of airlines today charge for checked bags, baggage allowances and fees differ by airline and often create confusion for travellers.
“What we’re doing with iflybags is taking the confusion and frustration out of finding out how much baggage travelers are able to take with them on a flight and the related costs.
“The goal with iflybags is to ensure that no traveler arrives at an airport without knowing what their checked baggage allowance and fees will be.”
