Opodo has launched a ‘supplier friendly’ hotel pricing programme that will give control of rates back to hoteliers, the online agency has said.

The move comes as Opodo added Amadeus’s full range of hotels to its site, bringing the number of featured properties to 65,000.

Hotels director John Ryan said the developments will improve the online experience for consumers and suppliers and set it apart from rivals.

“It’s one of the biggest challenges we have – improving the hotel online experience,” he said.

Hoteliers will be offered a choice of rates – retail, enhanced retail, merchant or wholesale – which can be loaded by the hotels onto their own CRS. Opodo can access inventory through Amadeus, SynXis and Utell.

He said hotels can choose what ever model works best at different times of the year.

“We have come up with a genuinely friendly model that will allow hoteliers to control pricing and maximise occupancy and yield,” said Ryan. “It allows them to be flexible to changing market conditions.”

The expanded range of hotels will feature a cross section of star ratings and include many independent properties – something Ryan said rivals do not currently offer.

In a further move, rooms will be clearly identified with a double or twin room while hotel descriptions will now be translated into German, French and Italian enabling better distribution for partner hotels across Europe.

He admitted the customers’ online hotel experience has traditionally been poor.

“We need to help improve the online experience,” he said.
