Cheapflights hits 5m newsletter subscribers

Travel deals comparison company Cheapflights claims to have hit a record five million global subscribers to a weekly online travel newsletter

Travel deals comparison company Cheapflights claims to have hit a record five million global subscribers to a weekly online travel newsletter.

The personalised communication, which was first introduced in 2004, is tailored to the subscriber’s location and “lifestyle preferences”.

The bulletins provide details of flight deals from local airports, air travel news and destination information.

The company’s head of global newsletter operations Yogesh Sharma said: “Our newsletters now have subscribers in five countries, the UK, USA, Canada, Germany and Australia – all of them have achieved record year on year growth over the past year and are at record subscriber levels.

“In the UK we have seen 51%; in the US we have seen 19% growth building on a significant subscriber base; in Canada the newsletter has really taken off with a 100% growth, whilst new newsletters in Australia and Germany have seen a combined 56% growth.”

The growth has enabled the firm to attract more advertisers, with more than 123 using the service last year.

Cheapflights chairman and CEO Hugo Burge pledged to further develop the initiative.

“We will continue to invest significantly to grow this complementary part of our business, making it more exciting for consumers, taking us into new international markets and helping travel advertisers reach a savvy audience,” he said.

“The travel newsletter is a great medium for Cheapflights to express its deep travel expertise and showcase our unparalleled range of flights partners.”

He added: “We value quality over quantity and are chuffed to be growing so quickly with a formula that really works for consumers and advertisers.”
