An Ibiza hotel has claimed to become the first in the world to integrate Facebook into the holiday experience.
Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel, part of the 50-strong Fiesta Hotel Group, has installed Facebook check-in stations that will upload information via wristbands configured to their profiles.
Guests will be encouraged to swipe the bands at various locations throughout the hotel and upload pictures in which they are tagged.
A range of different messages will be posted on the guests’ Facebook wall such as, ‘Hanging out at the Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel…Jealous?’
Irene Cano, sales director of Facebook Spain, said: “Summer is a great time for people to be sharing their holiday experiences – when spirits are high. We are in no doubt that this initiative will provide fantastic exposure for Ushuaïa as well as offering added-value and an interactive experience for guests.
“At Facebook, we are constantly developing our services to find synergies between the virtual and real worlds and we are excited to be collaborating with the holiday experience for the first time.”
Niels Verhoeven, Creative Director of Dorst & Lesser, the Amsterdam-based manufacturing company behind the technology added:
“After the success of the implementation of the Facebook pillars for Renault at the Dutch Autorai 2011, we were honoured to be asked to build the same Facebook fundamentals and take charge of the complete technical implementation for the Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel.”
When a guest swipes their band to post something on their wall, Facebook users can click to see the content and will be redirected to a page with links to the Ushuaïa website.
