Virgin Holidays iPad app hits 100,000 downloads

A Virgin Holidays iPad app designed to help the organisation sell its holidays has cracked the 100,000 download barrier, making it one of the UK’s top 10 travel apps

The Virgin Holidays iPad app has reached 100,000 downloads, making it one of the UK’s top 10 travel apps.

First launched last July, the iPad app allows users to browse the company’s complete Vhols brochure collection. It includes keyword searches, thumbnail viewing, and push notification so that customers can be confident they are viewing the latest version.

Virgin has also started to embed destination videos into the app.

Virgin says the app recognises the increasing importance of mobile devices for research and inspiration. The brand says it expects its customers to go further and use the iPad and similar tablet devices as a channel to buy.

Virgin Holidays sales and distribution director Chris Roe says, “We’re beginning to receive requests from customers to book through their phones or tablets and we’ve responded to that by recently adding ‘book now’ buttons that allow users to quickly call our sales team to make their purchase.

“We see this as a growing area, and are working hard to ensure we continue to evolve our offering in line with customer needs. The performance of our app has been very exciting, and we’re very impressed by the way that our customers have taken to it.”

Currently, the Virgin Holidays app is only available for Apple’s iPhone/iPad platform, but an Android version is expected to be available by the end of the year.
