Viator offers 75% saving on local member deals

Tour and activities online specialist Viator has announced its own local deals offering with up to 75% savings for registered members.

Tour and activities online specialist Viator has announced its own local deals offering with up to 75% savings for registered members.

With the growth of the deals model, led by US giant Groupon, showing no signs of slowing, Viator said its Member-Only Deals will give customers “exceptional value” and “peace of mind”.

To access the service registered members can view and search the deals online at Viator.com or on the site’s iPhone app and mobile site. The deals are location-specific and have a limited shelf life and quantity, in line with how other flash sale sites operate. Users can see how many spots on specific tours remain available.

The Member-Only Deals are being piloted in 25 locations ahead of a wider roll-out this autumn, the company said.

Barrie Seidenberg, president and chief executive of Viator, said: “Member-Only Deals are designed to give travellers exceptional value with the peace of mind they have a secured booking on a specific date and time in a destination they want.

“We’ve made it easy for our suppliers to create one-of-a-kind deals and upload inventory in real-time, up to the last-minute, which provides travellers even more options to get an unbeatable deal through Viator.”

Cities being trialled include Barcelona, Budapest, Las Vegas, Munich, New York, Paris, Rome, San Francisco and Sydney/Cairns. All deals are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Viator stressed its technology allows the tour suppliers to manage the availability and timing of their deals.

Sites like Groupon have been criticised for driving a hard bargain with suppliers which devalues travel product and potentially harms the quality of what the supplier is able to offer for the price it is sold at.
