Expedia’s UK director for online partner marketing Alex Gisbert has accepted a role overseeing the European expansion of the Lowcost Holiday Group.

Expedia’s UK director for online partner marketing Alex Gisbert has accepted a role overseeing the European expansion of the Lowcost Holiday Group.

The 2009 Travolution Awards Rising Star of the Year starts in his role on July 1 as international managing director at the fast expanding group. He will oversee Lowcost’s offices on the continent in Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Ireland and Italy.

As well as his most recent role at Expedia Gisbert has previously worked at Thomas Cook as commercial development manager and Opodo where he was commercial director.

Paul Evans, chief executive of the Lowcost Travel Group, said: “Alex has a wealth of invaluable industry experience including Travolution’s Rising Star of the Year Award in 2009 and I am delighted to announce his appointment to the group.

“Sales across Europe are running above our original expectations with Spain, Sweden, Germany and Ireland performing particularly strongly.

“These are very exciting times for the group with aggressive growth plans for Europe and I’m delighted to have Alex leading this expansion.”

In 2009 he was appointed to head up a new online partnership marketing team at Expedia covering 12 countries in Europe including the UK.

The team focused on marketing efforts across branded affiliates, display, metasearch, travel portals, affinity deals, social media and various other Expedia partnerships.

Gisbert added: “I am really excited to lead the European expansion of the Lowcost Travel Group. The group is already benefiting from significant demand from customers across Europe for flexible and lower cost holidays and the roll-out of lowcostbeds and Resorthoppa as well as lowcostholidays in new markets is a very exciting proposition.”

Lowcostholidays.com was named rising brand of the year at the 2010 Travolution Awards beating the likes of On the Beach, LateRooms, Viator and Travel TV.
