Travel brands race up Hitwise traffic rankings

Travel companies have jumped up the Hitwise “Hot Shops to Watch” list, taking places 10-13 on the online intelligence service’s February list of the most viewed sites on the web.

The fastest-growing brands on the list were all travel companies, with Thomas Cook moving up 27 spots to 13th place and First Choice climbing 21 places to 47th.

Thomson and Travel Republic gained 15 places, and British Airways 12 places.

The rankings, which are provided by IMRG and Experian, show easyJet is the most viewed travel company. Thomson, Travel Republic and British Airways also saw big gains as people booked ski vacations, spring breaks and early summer holidays.

“The travel sector always performs well after Christmas is finished for another year, and the freezing weather was likely to have made sunny destinations seem very appealing,” said IMRG’s CEO, James Roper.

He added, “The economic conditions are tough, but early indications are that the year is getting off to a good start for online retailers.”
