Dot-travel domain name provider Tralliance has launched a new vertical search engine to be used exclusively by consumers looking for travel related products.

Search.travel will display listings for existing internet sites and, in a separate section, sites that have recently bought a dot-travel domain name, tagged as “dot-travel authenticated”.

It will also carry traditional sponsored listings for travel websites.

The search engine has also been sub-divided into sections, such as travel agents, tour operators, cruises and activities, which allow the user to search for specific types of holidays or travel products.

Tralliance chief executive Edward A Cespedes said: “There are thousands of cyber squatters in the .com space today.

“And with billions of dollars changing hands through online commerce in the travel arena, it stands to reason that consumers are concerned about the validity of search results and the credibility of companies trying to attract their attention online.”

The move marks a major development for Tralliance following the launch of the dot-travel domain name last year.

In just over 12 months, Tralliance has sold and authenticated around 20,000 dot-travel domain names, with almost half based outside of the US.

Chairman Ron Andruff told Travolution recently that around half of the total number had also yet to be activated.
