Amadeus is to collaborate with the Spanish government on sustainable tourism initiatives in developing countries.

Co-operation will focus on technology, tourism and travel to promote social development in disadvantaged areas through corporate social responsibility activities.

The first projects will be developed in Haiti and Jordan, seen as being among the most disadvantaged regions.

Amadeus and Spain’s general secretariat for tourism will collaborate with developing countries, with both contributing extensive knowledge of sustainable tourism development.

The first action under the Framework Co-operation Agreement for Sustainable Tourism Development will be the creation of a monitoring unit based on information provided by Amadeus regarding demand for regular air travel.

Amadeus president and chief executive Luis Maroto said: “It is a great pleasure for us to co-operate with the general secretariat for tourism, as we not only share the same vision of solidarity but also believe that tourism should work in favour of all those developing regions that need to grow socially and economically.”
