US meta search engine Kayak.com has launched a Best Fare Trend tool to give users a visual snapshot of airfares on selected routes in the last three months.
The product from Kayak, which is expected to make a major push into the European market later in 2006, will join two other recent tools launched on the site allowing users to track ticket prices across flight serving websites.
Best Fare Trend will produce a graph of cheapest airfares in the past 90 days on the Kayak website and will sit within the results page for specific routes.
Chief executive and co-founder Steve Hafner said: “Airfares can change thousands of times a day so consumers are confused about when to purchase.
“Kayak.com’s Best Fare Trend graph displays price fluctuations for a specific route on a single departure date or over various dates so travelers can always be confident that they found the lowest fare.
The move also follows the launch of Kayak Forums – an online chat service allowing users to share tips, stories and information with other travellers.
