A new Amadeus rail distribution solution was showcased to train providers at a two-day gathering in France this week.

Amadeus Total Rail is designed to support railway companies and distributors from searching for fares and booking through to ticketing, customer profiles and business intelligence reporting.

Head of Amadeus Rail Diane Bouzebiba said the solution “will enable railways to distribute locally and also to wider markets more effectively, manage their production system, in turn increasing revenues and building long term brand value as a serious alternative to other forms of transport”.

The third Amadeus Total Rail Customer Forum in Sophia Antipolis, France, attracted industry experts and representatives from international railways.

Current issues facing the global railway industry were discussed, including open access in the light of European rail deregulation; high-speed rail as a competitor to air travel on commuter routes; the changing needs of travellers and the future of travel technology.

Expert speakers included Dr Oliver Haferbeck of Deutsche Bahn and Mark Smith, creator of ‘The Man in Seat 61’ rail blog.
