C&M launches first travel recruitment iPhone app

Travel industry recruitment firm C&M Recruitment has created the first iPhone app for the sector

Travel industry recruitment firm C&M Recruitment has created the first dedicated app for the sector.

The app, adapted by the firm that developed online recruitment brands Totaljobs and Monster, is available free on iTunes and allows users to search for vacancies on the move and send the results back to their desktop.

The company hopes the app’s ease of use will help make passive jobseekers more active.

C&M managing director Angus Chisholm said: “This is giving more opportunity for people to be aware of what’s available to them. The market is getting more and more fluid now because of the interaction of the internet.

“Historically there was always a clear distinction between the active and the passive seeker, but that is becoming blurred. People are looking for work and they want to do it more and more in their own time when they have the opportunity to.”

Chisholm said the company will assess how the iPhone app fares before deciding whether to invest in other smartphone platforms.

An app for the firm’s executive search arm Chisholm and Moore has also been developed and is awaiting approval from Apple. It focuses on searching a smaller number of select vacancies by location, while the C&M app focuses on searching a broader range by sector or salary.

C&M Recruitment commercial director David Robinson said new functionality will be added in later versions of the app. This might include new job alerts based on user-specified filters and the ability to upload CVs and apply from the handset.

“We do a lot of e-marketing and one of the things we have noticed is how quickly emails get opened now. Historically they would get opened of an evening or first thing in the morning. Now they are being opened more promptly, and that can only mean mobile devices are being used more widely.”

“With job seeking it’s better to be discreet rather than having it all on a screen at work, so to have an app seems to be the perfect fit. Once you have downloaded it it’s always going to be on your phone.”

Robinson said C&M research suggests job seekers are actually beginning their job search in the Apple app store, inputting specific job titles in the search field and choosing the most relevant app.

C&M Recruitment will be promoting the app at World Travel Market 2010.
