A streamlined check-in service by Apple iPad has been introduced by a hotel in Hong Kong.

The Upper House, part of Swire Hotels, sees the service as enhancing paperless arrival and departure for travellers.

Guests avoid the check-in desk and are escorted to their room by a member of the hotel’s ‘guest experience’ staff using an iPad to guide them through the registration process.

The iPad is also available upon request for guests to use within the hotel during their stay offering multiple features including up to date information about the property and things to do in the surrounding areas.

The Upper House already provides concierge, guest relations, bell and cashiering services at any location throughout the hotel using portable PCs.

The property also features an iPod-touch in each of its 117 rooms and suites, offering information on room service, games, music, local area information, weather, news and feedback forms.

Complimentary wireless high speed internet access is also provided in rooms and public areas.

General manager Dean Winter said: “Swire Hotels has given great consideration to the preferences of our guests and the effect our practices have on the environment.

“The Upper House is able to streamline guest arrival and departure experiences, offer vital connectivity both in and out of the House and keep guests up to date with the latest hotel and destinations news on the in-room iPod-touch whilst eliminating the need for unnecessary paper waste and carbon emissions.”
