The US firm has created an open platform for travellers to submit recommendations and reviews, new user profiles and as well as more integration with Facebook and Twitter.

The move to include more use-generated content is designed to improve the information available on top sights, attractions and experiences.

The company now claims to offer more than 5,500 activities and experiences in 75 countries to research and book as well as information on over 3,000 attractions.

Direct links to interactive maps is complemented by user reviews and photos.

Viator members can also share their reviews and photos or their favourite tours and attractions with their own personal online social network.

Chief executive and president Barrie Seidenburg said: “Viator provides travellers with comprehensive travel planning resources and the addition of traveller-submitted content expands the value we deliver to our customers.

“With more than two million monthly site visitors, we expect that this content will grow exponentially and become a leading resource for the kind of local information most important to travellers.”
