Eviivo launches UK independent hotel sector index

A new index has been launched that will track data from the independent accommodation sector in the UK.

Developed by online leisure company eviivo the Accommodation Index will feature 4,000 small to medium-sized independent hotels, B&Bs, guesthouses, inns and farmhouses.

The quarterly index will look at the key metrics of national and regional occupancy rates, average room rates, RevPAR and booking patterns and will also offer commentary and analysis.

Nigel David, eviivo chief executive, said: “This is ground-breaking: For the first time, a company publishes comprehensive data and key findings about a very important sector of the leisure industry which until now had only limited market intelligence available.

“We are delighted to share this valuable information with our industry counterparts, partners and accommodation businesses. The eviivo Accommodation Index will enable SME accommodation businesses to start to benchmark their own performance against the national and regional results.

“Focusing on the results in this first issue, it is interesting to note that despite the uncertain economic backdrop and a series of negative factors impacting the overall industry during the April-June quarter, the SME sector was quite resilient.

“At 49%, occupancy rates saw a 7% increase on the same period in 2009, and RevPar indicated a 6% year-on-year growth to £27.”

The eviivo Accommodation Index will be published at the end of the month following the end of each financial year quarter.
