Expedia and its accommodation website Hotels.com, were among the 10 biggest spenders on Google AdWords in June spending $5.95 million and $3.3 million respectively.
The snapshot comes from Advertising Age, which claimed to have “obtained” an internal Google document detailing spend on AdWords in the US.
According to the figures Expedia was the third biggest spender in June while Hotels.com was the seventh largest spender.
Advertising Age highlighted the appearance in the top 10 of BP which is said was clearly using Google for reputation management during the Gulf of Mexico oil spill buying up key words and video search ads.
This, it said, underlined the power of Google, which in the US accounts for 65% of web searches.
