Advisors are believed to have been sounded out for a sale of the 55% controlling stake acquired for more than £51 million six years ago.

Amadeus is believed to now consider the Opodo stake as a non-core financial investment which is likely to attract no shortage of bidders.

Any sale is not thought to be likely until next year.

Online flights retailer Opodo was established almost a decade ago by a group of European airlines including British Airways, Air France and Lufthansa.
