Delta to install touch screens in economy

Delta Air Lines is preparing to install touch screen in-flight entertainment for economy passengers on long-haul flights.

The US carrier, partner of Air France-KLM, plans to fit the integrated smart monitor developed by Panasonic Avionics in new, lightweight carbon-fibre seats on its fleet of 16 Boeing 747s.

The system will be installed from mid-2011 as part of a $1 billion upgrade, according to Flight International.

The system features a touch screen similar to Apple’s iPhone.
