Pitchup.com adds bookability and availability calendar

Camping and caravanning specialist Pitchup.com has added bookability and an availability calendar hoping to tap into the increasing tendency of younger customer to book online.

Three additional functions have been added to the site, which was originally established in July 2009 as an information source on over 5,000 UK campsites and caravan parks.

An availability calendar has been added to the site’s search system allowing suppliers to show what inventory is available. And new portal into which suppliers can upload pricing and tariffs has also been added to allow online bookings.

Finally, the caravan and camping parks can now integrate their reservation systems into Pitchup.com’s  booking tool, removing the need for suppliers to update data.

This means customers can see live availability and pricing in the same way that the camping and caravan parks’ receptionists can.

Daniel Yates, Pitchup’s managing director, said: “In 2009 the camping and caravan sector only saw 23% of bookings being made online.

“The increased profile of domestic holidays is attracting a younger, more online-savvy generation to look for UK breaks, but until now there hasn’t been a dedicated intermediary to allow consumers to check availability and book online.

“Our booking and availability upgrades will enable caravan and campsite owners not only to effectively shift stock during the shoulder season, but also to capitalise in the boom in online travel and target non-traditional customer segments for whom online booking is second nature.”

Pitchup has also added the ability for park owners to upload video and image that appear in search results. A predictive search function has also been added as well as a Bing map giving visitors a satellite view of their campsite.
