Europcar has introduced Microsoft Surface computers running a bespoke trip-planning app to Heathrow Terminal 5

Europcar has introduced Microsoft Surface computers running a bespoke trip-planning app to Heathrow Terminal 5.

Travellers will be able to use the Surface’s tabletop touchscreen to draw up routes using maps provided by Microsoft’s Bing search engine.

They will be able to zoom in on locations, flip between screens and add points of interest – including hotels and museums, festivals, music venues and theme parks – to their itinerary.

The completed itinerary can then be sent direct to smart phone or PDA using Bluetooth or wireless.

The car rental brand claimed to be the first in Europe to make the Surface available to its customers after trialing it at Munich airport earlier this year, and is now rolling out the service across Europe.

Europcar head of ecommerce Danny Higgins said: “We pride ourselves on innovation and look forward to adding the Surface to our range of cutting edge products and services that all go toward helping make people’s journeys as enjoyable as possible.”

The company has also introduced an iPhone and iPad App.
