Teletext Holidays is hoping to increase its sales through television and mobile devices following a new appointment.

Michael Pollitt has been given the role of head of television and mobile product, having joined the company from Virgin Media where he was interactive product manager.

He will report to Steve Pretorius, who was Tui’s of head of development and selling systems, and who is now Teletext’s chief technology officer.

Both appointments have been made as the travel agency moves towards a digital-only future where it is hoping to target significant growth.

Victoria Sanders, Teletext’s managing director, said: “We are one of the most trusted brands in travel and selling holidays through television has been our heartland.

“We want that to continue alongside our online business, and driving innovation and leading the travel industry in terms of selling through television and mobile channels is crucial for us as we move to a digital future.”

Pollitt said: “The opportunities to sell through digital television are huge and it’s an area where Teletext Holidays has always led the way.

“Television sets and set top boxes are being made and sold now which allow users to connect their broadband connection and access apps specifically designed for TV, in a similar way to apps which are specifically designed for iPhones.

“We’re currently working with Yahoo and are the first travel company to launch on Samsung and Sony televisions, where customers can now browse holidays like a brochure and select their holiday options from the comfort of their sofa in a clear and simple way.”
