TUI Travel is to launch a Spanish version of its holiday review and planning website www.cheqqer.com, following a successful trial in Holland.
Holiday tips from almost 50,000 TUI staff are being included on the site, which has generated almost 900,000 reviews within its first year of launch.
The expansion into Spain is the first step of the internationalisation of Cheqqer, TUI said.
Managing director Sandra Leonhard said: “We have always had the ambition to rollout Cheqqer across Europe.
“We’re very pleased that the pilot phase was successful and that we now have launched our first international market.
“The online travel and social media market in Spain has reached significant scale in the past couple of years and is still growing rapidly making it a logical choice to launch.
“Cheqqer is planning a full European rollout after Spain, probably following with one of the larger online travel markets in Europe.”
Leonhard added: “Our staff travel and live in wonderful destinations and know the insights about these places from the thrilling black runs in a skiing resort to the top tapas bars in Mallorca.
“These unique expert tips help Cheqqer to create a more complete holiday planning website and offer content that no one else can offer in this space. It clearly shows how Cheqqer can leverage the TUI Travel organisation for the benefit of its users.”
Leonhard said: “Together with almost 900,000 verified holiday reviews, expert content allows Cheqqer users to better plan their holiday and find inspiration on where to go and what to do.
“It is one of the advantages of being an independent part of TUI Travel; it allows us to move much faster than many other companies in this area.”
