A former director of the ill-fated UK website for Shermans Travel has launched Travel Answers, a new advice and travel deals operation that is hoping members of the industry will act as advisors.

The website, which uses a blog platform rather than a traditional website, has been created by Dale Lovell, who until recently was editorial director of Shermanstravel.co.uk.

Travelanswers.co.uk allows users to email travel-related questions and then fellow users are encouraged to respond by posting a comment on the site.

Lovell said: “It is rare for online travel hunters to receive impartial advice from people who actually work in the industry.

“The aim of Travel Answers is to encourage interaction between consumers looking for great deals and advice, and those experts who work in the online travel industry and know which sites offer the best deals to particular destinations at any particular time.”

An additional strand to the site will be a top ten travel deals service for users, similar to the Shermans Travel and Travelzoo model, but only available by RSS.

“Travel Answers will not take advertising for its Top 10 deals and will provide links free-of-charge to the travel deals featured,” Lovell said.

“The choices will be completely unbiased and with the comments tab we have on the site, other users who have seen a good online travel deal will be able to post on the site and share their findings with other visitors to the website.”

Shermanstravel.co.uk was shut down after just five months of operation. Bosses diverted money away from marketing the site to other projects in the US, including the launch of a dedicated Shermans magazine.
