Carhire3000.com tops visibility rankings in new Greenlight report

Priceline’s Carhire3000.com has topped the paid search visibility rankings for April in the latest analysis from Greenlight.

Carhire3000.com has topped the paid search visibility rankings for April in the latest analysis from Greenlight.


The car rental broker was acquired earlier this month by Priceline Inc for an undisclosed sum. The Financial Times suggested that “the total transactional value of the debt-and-equity deal was about £170m ($245m)”.


Greenlight research revealed that carhire3000.com had a paid search visibility of 82% in April. The agency ranks brands according to their presence within the sponsored links section of Google for the most popular 90 key words used when searching for car hire.


Carhire3000.com’s 82% visibility in April was achieved by bidding on 69 of the words, getting an average ad position of three. Greenlight’s look at the car rental vertical in January also placed carhire3000.com as the most visible with 79%.


In April, carhire3000.com was followed by travelsupermarket.com with a visibility of 76% and avis.co.uk with 68%. Priceline’s Nasdaq-listed competitors were well down the list, with ebookers, owned by Orbitz Worldwide, nabbing 20%.


Expedia did not appear in the top 60, where the cut-off point was a visibility of 0.4%. Holiday Autos, owned along with parent lastminute.com by VC-backed Sabre Holdings, registered 20%.


The analysis of natural search results revealed that the top 3,800 key words generated 1.4 million searches in April. The most visible brand within natural search was carrentals.co.uk, which appeared on the first page of Google for 59% of the searches.


Easycar.com picked up second place with 50% with travelsupermarket third with 32%. Carhire3000.com only picked up 8% visibility for natural search, an improvement on January when it registered 3%.
