Tourism Australia has launched the Great Boomerang Throw, a pass-it-on Facebook competition which gives users the chance to win a holiday down under.

Users throw a ‘virtual boomerang’ and the entrant with the longest chain wins a holiday to Australia, including a month’s work placement at the Praire Hotel in the South Australian outback.

Players start the chain by ‘throwing the boomerang’ to a friend, who then passes it on another friend and so on. The game allows players to include a personal message to encourage people to pass it on, and players can chart the progress of their boomerang on a global map.

The new game has been added to Tourism Australia’s Facebook page as part of its ongoing strategy to promote the Working Holiday Visa programme.

Tourism Australia general manager UK and Europe Rodney Harrex said: “The new game encourages our Facebook fans to have a go and learn more about the Working Holiday Visa. By throwing the boomerang we aim to spread the message about gap years in Oz, getting more young people to experience the wonders of Australia for themselves.”
