Travelzoo celebrates UK success

Reviews and deals website Travelzoo is celebrating its first year in the UK with news that it has attracted 450,000 subscribers to its infamous Top 20 e-mail bulletin.


The US-owned website launched in the UK last June and has since managed to steadily expand its database of users and attracted some 120 different travel advertisers.


Travelzoo.co.uk also fended off the launch in the UK of its main rival from the US, Shermans Travel, which pulled the plug on its new British website in May after just four months.


The website also managed to reach 500,000 users a month in May and start turning around operating losses incurred with the launch of the European operations last year.


Europe managing director Chris Loughlin said: “We will continue to invest heavily in the UK and focus on the quality of our publications.


“Our offices in both Covent Garden and Munich are buzzing with excitement as we enter our second year in Europe… just think what we could be capable of in the next 12 months.”
