UK inbound tourist sites VisitBritain and EnjoyEngland are to undergo a major overhaul in the next six months to tap into the rising band of overseas consumers researching UK travel options online.

The main portal for the organisation, VisitBritain.com, will be relaunched either at Christmas or in the new year and a new EnjoyEngland.com will be unveiled in August.

One of the major additions to the sites, following the successful launch of a price-comparison tool for inbound flights on VisitBritain earlier this year, will be a similar function for domestic rail travel.

This will include an option to search for Eurostar tickets to and from continental Europe.

The relaunches will be part of an overall strategy to turn the existing sites into a more user-friendly experience that will allow UK visitors to research holidays as well as find prices for flights, hotels and rail travel.

VisitBritain is also investigating whether to include user-generated content such as Blogs, travel tips and the ability for consumers to upload their own images.

Currently the sites have an operation behind the scenes, known as Englandnet, which will eventually handle hotel sales through accommodation providers such as ActiveHotels, Superbreak and Hilton.
