Home internet service provider AOL UK is reaping the rewards of a major influx of travel companies pushing marketing spend onto the Internet.

The company has revealed a massive 78% increase in the number of travel advertisers to its travel channel during May on the same period in 2005.

New companies that are using the AOL travel channel include Airtours, Travelodge, Monarch Airlines and Network Rail.

Heather Sommerville, head of travel and lifestyle, interactive marketing at AOL, said: “The significant growth shown in the online travel market over recent years is reflected by the amount of travel-related advertising and campaigns that run on the internet with great success.”

AOL said the latest influx of advertisers signified the strength of the internet in general for shifting travel products.

Sommerville added: “At AOL, we’re used to seeing major brands like BA.com and Kelkoo on the AOL Travel channel as they’ve advertised with us for some time, but we’re delighted with the amount of brands who’ve chosen to run campaigns with us for the first time this year, like Intercontinental Hotels and Maison de la France.”
