Holiday search engine Australia Travel Market has launched an Ebay-style bidding tool for agents and operators to pitch products to web users.

The Request A Quote tool on Australiatravelmarket.com allows consumers to enter details of the type of holiday required to Australia and then travel companies can then bid for the business.

The successful bidder is then handed the user’s details and is able to contact them directly to seal the booking.

The website acts as the mediator in the process by emailing holiday requests from users direct to agents and operators.

Founder and chief executive Dave Simmons said: “We wanted to create a level platform which would allow the biggest operator and the smallest agent in the country to compete on an equal footing.

“Request A Quote is also extremely cost effective seeing that travel agents and tour operators only pay for the leads they pursue.”

Agents and operators will be charged a yearly fee of £100 in order to access the service. Global Travel Worldwide and Flight Desk have been unveiled as the first clients to use the Request A Quote.

Australia Travel Market was launched in February this year by Simmons, former managing director of Quest Travel.
