Service slashes call costs from hotels

A service enabling travellers to make calls from hotel rooms for a fraction of the normal cost has been unveiled.

A service enabling travellers to make calls from hotel rooms for a fraction of the normal cost has been unveiled.

TravelTalk aims to provide business and leisure travellers with an alternative to using mobile phones and claw back some lost revenue for hotels.

Developed by telecoms specialist Clasix, the TravelTalk service costs callers from euro5.99 for 60 minutes, and there are no set-up or infrastructure costs for hoteliers.

Clasix said less than three per cent of guests currently use hotel-room phones to make external calls.

The system has already been installed in three hotels and Clasix forecasts it will be in 60 around Europe by the end of 2010.

The company plans to offer both a flat-fee internet service and in-room entertainment before the end of the year.
