Hotelly.com targets Teletext customers

Price comparison site Hotelly.com hopes to pick up some of the holiday market held by Teletext Holidays ahead of the shut-down of its travel service on analogue television, now expected late next year.

The UK version of the US site is backed by former Teletext Holidays managing director Matt Cheevers and On Holiday Group chief executive Steve Endacott, who said: “There will be a couple of million customers re-entering the market after the shut-down of Teletext. They will be looking for reliable, good value deals and we expect to benefit.”

Hotelly.com began offering holidays this week, with dynamic packages for sale through call-centre travel agencies that include Monster Travel and Luton-based Broadway Travel.

“Bookings will be taken mostly over the phone,” said Endacott. “Web conversion rates are still low and a lot of customers still want to speak to someone.”

Hotelly.com also offers accommodation and claims to feature 10 million user reviews along with maps and videos. Commercial director Vishal Jain said: “Hotelly.com shows the user the final booking price from the outset. Prices are subject to change throughout the booking process on other comparison sites.”
