An online fee-charging service that connects travellers with local specialists in destinations has been launched.

An online fee-charging service that connects travellers with local specialists in destinations has been launched.

Tripbod will charge independent travellers £10.99 and upwards – depending on the length of their trip – in return for help and advice in planning.

Founder and chief executive Sally Broom said: “There is no service out there to help [independent] travellers tailor trips and get the type of experience you only get with a host. Travellers need a connection with someone at the other end.”

The site uses interactive Google maps to provide personalised maps of trips. It already offers 45 destination specialists across 40 countries and is looking to have up to 100 by the end of year. “Tripbods” are vetted before being accepted on the site.

Broom said the new site evolved from YourSafePlanet, which she launched three years ago to put travellers in touch with local experts. She has struck a deal with Cumbria Tourism to use its accommodation-booking engine, and hopes for a deal with Rough Guides.
