Interest in camping and caravan holidays among the UK public is reflected in strong web-traffic statistics from two of the sector’s leading membership organisations.

The Camping and Caravan Club reports it has attracted about 50,000 new members this year, bringing the total to a landmark figure of more than 250,000. Three-out-of-five members this year signed up online.

The Club also revealed that May was its busiest-ever month online, driven by the launch of its newtocamping.co.uk web site. The site promotes all forms of outdoor holidays.

The rival Caravan Club is also talking up its online presence. It reports 10,000 unique visitors to its discovertouring.com site, 8,000 of them using the site to request a hard copy of the club’s Discover Touring magazine.
