Opodo has promoted France country manager Petra Friedmann to the newly created position of director of sales and marketing for the entire company.


The new position will see Friedmann take responsibility for branding, customer positioning, marketing, sales a nd revenue generation across Opodo’s nine European market, including the UK, Spain, Norway, Denmark, Sweden and the recently launched Italy site.


Friedmann, who joined the company in April 2002, has been credited with the launch and managing of the France end of the Opodo business.


The website is the market leader in France and bought Vivacances brand in June 2005 – an integration overseen by Friedmann.


She will report into the recently promoted commercial and product director, Sally Balcombe, who is overseeing all commercial operations for Opodo.


Balcombe said: “Opodo has grown rapidly over the last 12 months, both organically and through acquisition, and we felt the time was right to expand the commercial team by appointing a European director of sales and marketing to capitalise on this success.


“Petra has been an integral part of the senior management team for the last four years and her knowledge of the Opodo brand and strong leadership skills will be invaluable as we look to drive future business growth.”
