Kayak has taken over the travel search functionality for European price comparison site Pricerunner.

The meta search engine has replaced Swedish firm TravelLab for the UK, France, Germany and Denmark country sites around Europe. TravelLab will continue to run Pricerunner’s Sweden site.

The announcement is a significant deal for Kayak in the mainstream European consumer markets after it recently lost its managing director Faisal Galaria following a disagreement over its overseas strategy for expansion.

Kayak will provide flight, hotel and car hire search on an embedded white label within the Pricerunner travel channel.

PriceRunner general manager Peter Carlsson said: “We wanted to strengthen our travel channel to give our customers a comprehensive and objective view of their travel options through our white label holiday search tool.

“We reviewed over ten potential partners before settling on Kayak, which is one of the most established travel search engines on the market.

“We will build on this in the future by adding features such as fare buzz, where you can complete a quick fare search for up to 25 cities at once, and much more.”

Meanwhile, Kayak has also signed a deal with booking.com to include its portfolio of properties on the Kayak hotel channel, boosting the overall number available for users to 197,000.

Annie Wilson, director of business development for Kayak, said, “Adding booking.com gives our travellers an even greater choice of travel options.

“We’re constantly striving to give Kayak travellers the information they need in the most efficient manner.”
