Atlanta-based Intent Mediaworks has taken the phenomenon of person-to-person file-sharing, familiar in the music industry, and applied it to the online travel trade.

Intent, which distributes music, film and video among networks that reach 20 million people, is planning to launch Mytravelnetwork.com, aimed at enabling users to find travel information in a social networking environment where people are encouraged to share.

Intent’s founders, Les Ottolenghi and Glenn Martin, both from a travel background at Agentware and Carlson Wagonlit Travel, plan to offer an index of information on worldwide destinations that is available both from other users and travel management companies.

A component of the site will be the matching of users with ‘experts’ on specific destinations, including airlines, tour operators and on and offline travel agents.

Although the site is yet to be up and running – it was due to be launched to consumers in March – an announcement on the site suggests travel agents, airlines, hotels, car-rental companies, tour operators, cruiselines, destinations, and other industry suppliers can have a complimentary or upgraded profile on Mytravelnetwork.com.

That will give them direct immediate access and two-way communications with Intent’s current 20 million registered users, and a future registered potential of 250 million.
