Hostelbookers has unveiled a new technology platform making it more flexible and able to react more quickly now and going forward.

The budget accommodation specialist has revamped its website as part of the technology focus making it easier and faster to research and book destinations.

A number of features across the site have been enhanced including the travel guides section so that users are now able to search for destinations using a number of criteria including maps, news and events.

Chief operating officer David Smith told Travolution: “We have introduced Google mapping so we have well over 10,000 properties that are mapped.”

He also said that Ajax filtering had been added to the service as well as free text searching to enable users to drill down through as many destinations as possible.

Properties within the site are now displayed by user rating and visitors can filter their searches by the ratings. Hostelbookers now features about 500,000 reviews.

Social media elements of the site have also been improved with videos and images.

Smith added that the relaunch of the website was supported by a renewed focus on the trade with a call-centre set up to help agents with group bookings.
