Travel insurance specialist Rock Insurance has bought marketing specialist AIS for an undisclosed sum.

The acquisition is part of the travel insurance company’s strategy to expand into new markets.

AIS works with affinity groups, providing staff travel insurance schemes to companies, unions and charities. It has worked with Rock as its broker for just over a year.

As a result of the deal, AIS is moving from Southend in Essex to Rock’s head office in Crawley in Sussex, with founder Terry Martin joining as director of AIS Direct to continue growing the business, which was founded in 1991 originally as a small underwriting company.

AIS’ remaining four staff have decided to leave the business due to the relocation.

Rock managing director Antony Martin said: “The addition of AIS to Rock’s existing portfolio of products will be of particular benefit to customers with large databases where we can apply these skills to generate additional travel insurance sales for our travel customers.”

He confirmed the business is already looking at a number of other potential acquisitions this year.
