VisitBritain, the national tourism agency, is working in partnership in the South West with the official Olympic sailing venue, Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA), to provide a quality assessed accommodation search facility aimed at participants and spectators wanting to experience the sailing events at the venue in the run up to the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.

The user friendly search is a valuable tool to find, an extensive range of quality assessed accommodation, the ideal one for a visit to this Olympic venue.

The consumer can filter their search by star rating, facilities, property type and the results can be displayed on a map making it easy to see the proximity to the venue.

VisitBritain is working with the Government and other agencies to get 75 per cent of accommodation providers involved in quality accreditation schemes by 2012.

Empowering the consumer and meeting expectations of the standard of their accommodation, whether it be a small B&B or large hotel is important to ensure they holiday again and understand that accredited participants really do give a fantastic and tailored service.

Kenny Boyle, director distribution services at VisitBritain, said: “We’re delighted to work with such a prestigious venue on this project, one of the first users of our white label accommodation search.

“Organisations must take every opportunity to remain ahead of the crowd and this service offers visitors to the WPNSA site an excellent service alongside those they already offer. Our ambition is to help all parts of the industry improve their profitability and offer consumer services to help them widen their reach.”

Chris Knight, business manager of Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy, added: “We are excited to be able to host this venture with VisitBritain, it will give a new dimension to services for traveling sailors.”

As deliverer of the official Pre Games Training Camps website, which can be viewed at trainingcamps.london2012.com, VisitBritain provided National Olympic and Paralympics Committees with details of the over 600 assessed facilities available in the UK for the Games.

This data along with that provided to the WPNSA website is held in the National Tourism Product database managed by VisitBritain with the participation of the nations and regions.

The Database also powers the searches on VisitBritain’s family of websites and is home to more than 40,000 quality assessed accommodation types, 12,000 attractions and 5,000 events.

The white label is fully brandable and customisable by partners and increases the reach of tourism product to new distribution channels.
