Lastminute.com group has sold accommodation-only supplier MedHotels to Thomas Cook for an undisclosed sum.

The sale of MedHotels enables lastminute.com to focus on its core online travel agency business while maintaining access to industry-leading resort hotel content.

The acquisition of MedHotels sees Thomas Cook become the UK market leading accommodation-only supplier.

Thomas Cook has acquired the Med Hotels German and UK businesses, contracts and brands including Med Hotels, Hoteltransfers and Holiday Hotels.

Lastminute.com group chief executive Ian McCaig said: “Med Hotels has played an important role in the growth of the lastminute.com group over the past five years.

“The deal allows lastminute.com to cement its position at the forefront of the online travel industry.

“I would like to personally thank everybody at Med Hotels for their contribution to the success of the lastminute.com Group and wish them further success as part of Thomas Cook.”

As part of the deal, Thomas Cook will also be discussing wider strategic opportunities with Sabre.
