The iPhone, open source, online maps and web analytics tools are among the best innovations to impact the digital world in past six months.

These were some of the developments, which stood out for panellists at Travolution’s Industry Question Time.

Hoseasons chief executive Richard Carrick said analytics had seen real improvement.

“It is key. The more we can get into performance and conversion the better. It drives value to the bottom line. We are only at the start but the tools we saw 18 months ago are dinosaurs compared to what is possible.”

iCrossing  chief executive Arjo Ghosh said the combination of the mapping and mobile would ‘change the game’, and that the iPhone had changed people’s relationship with the mobile web.

Other online experts highlighted sites such as Tripit and Phorm as the biggest innovations to emerge.

Kayak UK and Europe managing director Faisal Galaria said: “Phorm looks at the user journey. You can learn so much and second guess where the user is going next and what they desire and that could change online travel and change the relationship between user and brand.”
