Comtec has acquired Canadian tour operator content management company Comnet for an undisclosed sum.

This is the fourth acquisition for the company this year and is part of the strategy to gain an international footprint as well as expand its distribution capabilities for the leisure travel industry.

Ontario-based Comnet enables agents to search and book packaged holidays and charter flights offered by the major tour operators in Canada.

Comtec believes combining the platforms will allow it to offer the Canadian travel industry the most accurate content and effective distribution available in the market.

Comnet will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Comtec.

Comnet Canada president Rick Cannon said the deal would provide agents with a choice of systems to choose from.

“Comnet has always had the right technology for today’s industry but, until now, we have lacked the resource necessary to take on the incumbent tour operator content distributors. Comtec will provide that resource.”

Comtec chief executive Simon Powell said: “Finding a partner which offered us access to aggregated tour operator content was essential for our step into Canada.

“Comnet has a strong reputation in Canada, however until now it has been under-funded.”
