Leading travel website alpharooms.com is celebrating a decade in business with the release of great trading figures and ambitious growth plans for 2009.

Despite the recent economic downturn, alpharooms.com continues to buck the trend and can report exceptionally strong growth and a fantastic financial performance over the last 12 month period.

The total value of transactions has increased significantly by more than 87% over the last 12 months, from £34.5m in 2007 to £64.7m in 2008.

In line with this, customer numbers have also increased from 365,000 in 2007 to 654,000 in 2008.

Major growth and further expansion will continue as alpharooms.com moves into its second decade of operation.  Significant investment has been made in the development of new product ranges and destinations which will be launched during 2009.

Founder and managing director Jason Fry commented: “Alpharooms.com holds a strong position in the market and a leading position ahead of many of its competitors.  We’re committed to growth and will expand despite a struggling market by continuing to make improvements to the site to the benefit of our customers.”

To mark its 10th anniversary, and in the wake of the recent decline of a number of tour operators and airlines, alpharooms.com has taken crucial steps to highlight its transparency by unveiling a new, safer and customer-focused website.

Simple and straightforward to use, the upgraded website clearly highlights the ATOL protected products prior to customers completing their booking, so that it is crystal clear if the flight or holiday they choose is protected before payment is made.

Fry continues, “Following the recent demise of a number of airlines and tour operators, we have made the conscious decision to offer greater transparency for consumers about which flights and holiday packages carry the ATOL logo and offer full financial protection.

“Some of our competitors seem to be avoiding obtaining a license and we hope the CAA enforces the existing rules so that we have a level playing field.  Our priority is to make sure our customers are fully informed and that they know they are receiving extra protection when they book an ATOL-protected product with alpharooms.com.”

Sheffield-based alpharooms.com was established in 1998 and employs more than 100 people.
