Channel Islands-based online travel agent JustTheFlight is ramping up its technology in order to cope with a major increase in traffic.

The company admitted that the recent introduction of a dual Global Distribution System to handle ticket booking had put pressure on its server, prompting moves to double the existing capacity.

The addition of an airline, destination and flight information service and RSS feeds had also increased the need for larger server capacity.

Technical director Simon Goddard said: “Our research shows that the quicker and easier a website is to use, the more successful it is and that customers are more likely to return.”

The company has poured much of its resources into pushing its branding as a travel agent, rather than a price comparison site.

The website’s homepage says: “The Online Travel Agent, not another comparison site.”

Senior web developer Mark Byart said: “People are realising that the plethora of comparison sites out there don’t offer the flexibility and service that is found from a dedicated travel agent.”

The website is one of the first in the travel sector in the offer RSS/XML feeds to users looking for regular updates on flight prices and deals.
