Tourism Ireland has claimed a massive 50% increase in traffic since it relaunched its website in March.

The organisation, founded as part of the Good Friday agreement with a remit to jointly promote the Republic and Northern Ireland, is expected to spend a massive Euro 2.6 million on its global web strategy.

The first phase has been to overhaul both the UK and US sites under the new moniker of DiscoverIreland.com.

Alongside traditional destination reviews and event guides, Tourism Ireland has incorporated a user-generated content section for visitors to ask questions about the region.

The site has included a radio feed for visitors to tune into a string of local stations over the internet.

The wider online goal for Tourism Ireland is to have a total of 24 different websites, covering 14 different languages.

The overhaul of the sites has been handled by Wheel and LB Icon.
