SITA is urging airports to register their three letter code for the .aero internet domain for the air transport industry before 1 December 2008.

The company, which administers .aero, will release the domains to any qualifying organisation after that date.

The two-letter airline codes as well as other country specific codes will remain reserved and SITA will continue to operate the .aero top level domain.

The .aero domain is already used by 6,100 members of the aviation community including more than 210 airports.

Airports who have already registered include Manchester (man.aero), Singapore (sin.aero) and Los Angeles (lax.aero).

The cost of domain registration varies between US$65 and $150 depending on the registrar each company uses.
