Travel guide specialist Frommer’s has started a programme of launching interactive city content for the iPhone and iTouch.

The initial run will include guides for New York, Paris, San Francisco and London following an agreement signed with content technology firm Modality.

The downloadable, advertising-free guides will work offline and include travel tips, restaurant and hotel reviews, maps, location services and full web links to relevant sites.

Founder and chief executive of Modality, S Mark Williams, said: “Most travellers are already carrying these personal media devices with them.

“The expanded functionality of the iPhone and iPod offers ease of use and unlimited information at consumers’ fingertips, greatly enhancing their overall travel experience.”

Larry Olson, vice president and marketing director, professional-trade at Wiley, which operates the Frommer’s and WhatsOnWhen brands, added: “There’s no doubt technology is changing the way we travel, and by partnering with Modality to bring Frommer’s to the iPhone, we are positioning our content to appeal to the most savvy pleasure and adventure seekers in the marketplace.”
